Protecting the Missouri River

The Army Corp. operates the Upper Missouri River mainstem dams. It has a significant adverse impact on Tribal water supply, cultural resources, and fish & wildlife habitat. The GPTWA is working to protect Indian water for use on the reservations. We urge the Corp of Engineers to modify their operation for water justice for the Tribes.

Protecting Wetlands

The GPTWA is working with allies to fight the rollbacks of the Clean Water Act and to protect wetlands throughout Indian Country and throughout the United States.

Fight Mining in the Black Hills

The GPTWA is working with allies to fight mining claims and to protect water quality in the sacred Black Hills.

Opposition to Western Dakota Regional Water Project

Even though Tribal water infrastructure is woefully underfunded, local water districts are asking congress for over 1 billion dollars. For an economically infeasible water pipeline from the Missouri River to the Black Hills for future growth. The GPTWA supports full funding for Tribal Water Projects to meet immediate needs and treaty obligations.

Sovereignty Over Indian Water

The Board of Directors and the Staff of the GPTWA are management professionals in the areas of water and natural resources in Indian Country. The GPTWA promotes the development and implementations of Tribal Water Codes and water quality standards.
